QUESTION:

What is the manager's responsibility for field maintenance?

It is the managers responsibility to prep the field for the next team/game or if you are the last one on the field for that day. When dragging the infield please don't drag the drag mat over any part of the infield or down the baselines. The drag mat catches all the dirt and debris onto the lips and is very difficult to get rid of once it's there. It then builds a ramp and will in turn get some bad hops. Make sure someone rakes the baselines. Please make sure that if you are the last one on the field that you remove the base anchors and put the rubber base plugs in the holes. If the anchors are not removed and we get rain they get stuck in there. I appreciate all the support and help. Let's keep the fields in great shape.

QUESTION:

My son is 10 years old. Should he tryout for Majors?

ANSWER:

There are pluses and minuses to allowing 10 year olds to tryout and play in the Majors division. Majors is the highest level of play in little league and the most competitive division, the playing time for a ten year old will definitely be limited. Twelve year olds are usually allowed more playing time because it is their last year in Little League. One advantage is that the youngsters can get adjusted to hitting faster pitching (usually between 50-65 MPH) The first year in Majors is usually a transition year. If the youngster attends the tryout for Majors, then the player must be ready to play in Majors if drafted. If a player played a year in Minors and did extremely well (offensively and defensively), then the youngster will be better prepared for the challenge in Majors. The advise to the parents is to always consult with different coaches that have seen your son or daughter play recently and ask for their opinion on whether or not they feel the boy or girl is ready to play in the Majors. (It is helpful for youngsters and parents playing in the Minors to attend a Majors game, so they can see the level of play)

QUESTION:

My son did not make the division he applied and tried out for, why?

ANSWER:

There are 8 different experienced coaches rating the tryout for all applicants to all divisions. We strive to keep safety as the number one reason to keep a youngster at a certain level, but there is a limited number of players accepted in each division each year. We usually try to maintain all teams with 11 - 12 players in each division, in order to ensure adequate playing time. We also cannot exceed a certain number of teams in each division due to League Restrictions.

QUESTION:

My son played in Machine Pitch last year, he is not ready to move up to Minors, so can I just have him skip the tryouts?

Every youngster registering to play in Machine Pitch, Minors and Majors must tryout, even if they want to play the same division they played the prior year.
